SLS1An order restraining Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Mohammed Adoke; Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Abubakar; the State Security Service (SSS); and any other law enforcement agencies of the Federal Government from arresting and detaining suspended Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi – or subjecting him to any form of degrading treatment has been granted by a Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos.

Sanusi had a foretaste of what to expect in the hands of the Federal Government following his suspension from office by President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday, when he was briefly held by the SSS and later released but not before his international passport was allegedly confiscated by the security agency.

Sanusi deemed the actions of the SSS a violation of his right to personal liberty, freedom of movement and right to dignity of his person, as guaranteed under Sections 34, 35 and 41 of the 1999 Constitution.

In his ruling on Friday, Justice Buba Ibrahim granted the order pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.

Justice Buba fixed Friday, 28th February 2014 as return date for further hearing on the matter.
