The Lagos State House of Assembly has lamented the persistent killing of innocent Nigerians in the North East by members of the Boko Haram sect and President Goodluck Jonathan’s perceived lack of focus in the matter in favour of his second term bid.

The Assembly’s position was contained in a statement signed by Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Strategy, Security and Publicity, representing Epe Constituency II, Hon Segun Olulade Olulade.

He said: “The inability of the government to find clues to solving the region’s menace is a breach of trust on the part of Mr President’s pledge to protect life and property as contained in the oath he swore to as president of this country.

“Lives and properties are of no importance in this country anymore; the number of people being killed like fowls is very disturbing and heart-breaking by the day. It is a signal of a failed government at the centre; failure of the state of emergency in the three most affected states is failure of government”.

Hon. Olulade expressed surprise that the president was traveling across the country, and coming to the South West over the weekend, to lobby the traditional rulers and stakeholders for support in the 2015 elections while people continue to die in hundreds in other parts of the country.

“Obviously, Mr President is telling us that his ambition is worth the blood of millions of Nigerians contrary to what he used to say that his ambition is not worth the blood of one Nigerian”, he said.
