President Goodluck Jonathan may have subtly began a campaign to get the support of some foremost traditional rulers in the country for his second term ambition as he Saturday, visited four monarchs in Kano, Osun, Oyo and Lagos States respectively.
The president visited the palaces of the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero; Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade; Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi and the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu in what his spokesperson – Reuben Abati – described as a “private visit”.
The President is reportedly mobilizing the traditional rulers for the National Conference, but opposition figures see Mr. Jonathan’s visit as part of his preparation to declare his intention to run in the 2015 presidential race.
