Clik here to view.President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday responded to allegations in certain quarters that his administration is condoning corruption, saying that corrupt Nigerians are the ones who openly accuse level such allegations against him.
Mr. Jonathan has been accused by his estranged political benefactor, ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo of not tackling corruption frontally, but in a more direct response to a statement credited to the Speaker, House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, that his “body language” was supporting corruption in the country, the president said his critics were missing the point and were only making such statements to claim credibility.
Speaking shortly after swearing in the chairman and members of the National Population Commission; a member of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission and two special advisers at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Mr. Jonathan said the only path to becoming what he termed an “angel” was to go public with allegations that his government was not fighting corruption.
Jonathan said, “Anybody who wants to claim an element of credibility will go to the television and accuse government of corruption, that the President’s body language shows that he is not fighting corruption or that he is not ready to fight corruption.
“Sometimes, even the very corrupt people are those making these statements because if you attack government, you are insulated, you become an angel.
“If you want to be an angel, just attack the government, whatever you have done is covered”, he said.
