Former Taraba State governor, Reverend Jolly Nyame and his successor, Governor Danbaba Suntai last Friday settled their political differences when the former governor paid him a visit at Government House, Jalingo.
Shortly after Nyame, who has governed Taraba State three times helped Suntai to become governor, they both fell out as Suntai aimed to solidify his grip on power and take control of the party – Peoples’ Democratic Party – structure in the state. The political turn of events forced Nyame to in his own words, ‘step aside’ from the PDP and join the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) where he tried to get elected to the Senate but was defeated by Hajia A’isha Jummai Alhassan of the PDP. He has however, returned to the PDP.
As if to confirm the popular saying that in politics there are no permanent friends or enemies, only permanent interests, Nyame urged citizens of the state to bury their differences and pray for the quick recovery of the governor, who is recuperating from injuries he sustained in a plane crash last year, insisting that the progress and development of the state should be the concern of every Taraba state citizen.
In his response, Governor Suntai expressed gratitude to the former governor for finding a place in his heart to forgive and visit him in his moment of trial.
Information Nigeria reports that after Nyame’s visit to the recuperating governor, they both attended a church thanksgiving service held in honour of Suntai at the Life and Destiny Church, Jalingo.
