The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto State on Sunday reaffirmed its loyalty to President Goodluck Jonathan and the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur.
The reaffirmation was contained in a communiqué at the end of the party’s meeting as read by the former Minister of Communications and former PDP chairman in the state, Alhaji Arzika Tambuwal.
“We, the undersigned, whose names appear below and who have appended their signatures are members of the Sokoto State chapter of the PDP.
“On behalf of the members of our great party, we do hereby state categorically and unequivocally that we are bonafide members of the PDP from Sokoto State.
“We reaffirm our unflinching loyalty, support and cooperation for our great party, the PDP.
“We expressed our complete faith in the leadership of our national chairman Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, and President Goodluck Jonathan”, it added.
The PDP members said they had reviewed recent political developments in the state as it concerned the state governor and his defection to the APC.
“We have considered and analysed the wisdom of moving to another party and say that PDP will survive the opposition strategy as it has survived previous mergers.
“PDP has the spread, the capacity and the vision to do so, incidentally, many highly placed PDP members who left eventually returned.
“Again, founding fathers like Obasanjo, IBB, and Atiku Abubakar are still in the PDP”, the communiqué added.
The communiqué assured the members that efforts to reorganise and reposition the party had begun, appealing to its members to remain steadfast.
“We have served the party and government from 1999 to date, and are grateful for the opportunities given to us on the platform of the PDP.
“We remain committed to working for the party toward improving the living conditions of all Nigerians”, the communiqué added. (NAN)
