The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has cancelled the conduct of the Governorship Primary election in Ogun state.
The party did not give reasons for the cancellation of the primary but it might not be unconnected with the travails of former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, whose name was conspicuously missing from the list of Ogun State governorship aspirants on the platform of PDP.
In a statement issued on Monday by its National publicity secretary, Olisa Metuh, the PDP said it did not authorize any governorship primary election in Ogun state.
”For the avoidance of doubt, the NWC hereby states that it did not authorize any governorship primary in Ogun state. Consequently, any such exercise held in Ogun state is hereby declared null and void and of no effect”, the statement read.
However, it added that a new date for the governorship primary election would be announced later.
