APC GovsAhead of the 2015 general election, Governors of the All Progressives Congress, APC, on Wednesday pledged their support for the use of consensus method in choosing the presidential as well as other candidates of the party.

The Governors, who made their position known under the aegis of Progressives Governors Forum, declared that neither the party nor the forum had endorsed any candidate for elective office.

Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha while addressing journalists in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, said the forum was in support of consensus method of choosing candidates so long as there was no imposition of candidates.

He added that in the event of not arriving at a consensus candidate, the party would then go for credible and transparent primaries.

Okorocha said, “On consensus, our forum is in full support of consensus as one of the ways to produce our presidential candidate or any candidate in the party for as long as it is done with regards for internal democracy. There will be no imposition of candidate in our party.

“Our Forum has not adopted any candidate neither has the Governors’ Forum adopted any candidate but we shall encourage consensus and dialogue within the leadership of the party and aspirants to see how we come up with a candidate. But where that is not possible, like true progressives, we shall have a free and fair primaries from the APC”.

Okorocha also decried the dwindling revenue accruing to the states, saying the situation had become so terrible that some states were finding it difficult to pay their workers’ salaries.

He said the forum planned to meet with President Goodluck Jonathan on the issue and pleaded with him to grant them audience.
