GEJ-SULE LAMIDOGovernor Sule Lamido of Jigawa State has debunked media speculations that he was interested in contesting the 2015 presidential election on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party, saying he never had any disagreements with President Goodluck Jonathan on the issue.

Speaking through his Director of Press, Mr. Umar Kyari, the governor noted that the call to vie for the presidency was not his bidding but that of his supporters, who wanted him to replicate his achievements in Jigawa on a national scale.

“As a matter of fact, the governor has never declared his intention to challenge Jonathan in the Presidential race but it was only his admirers, who suggested that based on the brilliant performance he has put up in the state, he could replicate same if he becomes the president of Nigeria”, Umar explained.

“It must be made abundantly clear that governor Lamido has never told anyone that he was going to challenge Jonathan in the presidential election in 2015”, the spokesman stressed.

It would be recalled that Lamido had distanced himself from the initial endorsement of Jonathan by the North-West Zone of the PDP about two weeks ago because according to him, the president has not fulfilled the 2011 election campaign promises he made to the people of Jigawa State.

The development was then taken to mean that he was ready to battle Jonathan for the PDP presidential ticket but the position changed dramatically when Lamido turned up at the NEC meeting of PDP on Wednesday and endorsed the president as the ruling party’s sole candidate for the 2015 presidential election.
