Boluwaji KunlereThe Senator representing Ondo State Southern Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Boluwaji Kunlere, has formally declared his defection from the Labour Party to the Peoples Democratic Party.

Kunlere, who was a former State Secretary of the PDP during the late Olusegun Agagu’s administration, said he left the party because he had earlier been pushed out.

His defection is a precursor to the anticipated mass defection of elected LP officials in Ondo State, including the governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, to the PDP.

Kunlere told reporters on Saturday in Akure, the state capital, that he decided to part ways with LP as a matter of principle.

He described his decision as personal, saying anybody still displaying LP’s flag in the state “is a dead politician waiting to be buried”.

Kunlere noted that his decision to return to PDP had been received as a welcome development by both the PDP at the state and national levels.

He said, “I have received representation of PDP from top to bottom. I went to Igbotako ward 2 and ward 1, I joined in the meeting and I have met with the state secretary of the party who is from my local government, I have met with Olusola Oke, Kingsley Kuku, and so many of them. Agboola Ajayi was in my house to invite me early this year. The leadership of the Senate is not left behind in my plans to return to PDP”.
