The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has warned the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate in the August 9 governorship election in the state, Senator Iyiola Omisore, against violence in the build up to the poll.

The warning was contained in a statement issued by the Osun APC Director of Media and Research, Mr. Kunle Oyatomi, on Sunday.

The ruling party urged the people of the state to be wary of Omisore, who they claimed, had told all who care to listen that he would reverse all the works done by Governor Rauf Aregbesola.

The statement partly reads, “The emergence of Iyiola Omisore from a kangaroo primary of the PDP over the weekend is typical of a party whose hallmark for political engagement is gangsterism.

“We all expected it, even his co-aspirant has had to withdraw from the race because the candidate and his gang will stop at nothing including violence to pick his party’s ticket. And he already has it.

“However, that development makes things easier for the APC because with an Omisore, the PDP has a candidate that lacks pedigree, credibility, responsibility and focus.

“The APC welcomes Omisore to the race and expects him to be a lot less violent about political engagement this time around because he is unlikely to get away with it”.

Senator Iyiola Omisore, a former deputy governor of Osun State, who emerged the PDP flag bearer on Saturday, in his reaction to the APC’s statement, said that he would not join the party in trading abuses and character assassination, preferring instead to focus on the job at hand.

Speaking through his media aide, Mr. Diran Odeyemi, the PDP guber candidate said that his emergence at a transparent primary had obviously unsettled the ruling APC in Osun State.
