The Federal Government on Friday instructed the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to take over all completed transmission lines and commence the immediate distribution of electricity to consumers.

The directive was given by Vice President Namadi Sambo when the board and supervising management of the TCN and other officials of the power sector paid him a visit at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Sambo was quoted in a statement by his spokesperson, Umar Sanni, as telling the Chairman of the TCN, Ibrahim Waziri, that the government had identified three areas in order to achieve its objective of adequate power supply.

The areas, according to the statement, are financing the power sector; addressing properly the generation, transmission distribution and development of gas infrastructure for gas supply; and the production of hydro-power plants to meet the planned objectives of the vision 2020:20.

“There are a lot of challenges particularly as government is keeping the TCN as a government-owned entity as a new strategy for bringing in Manitoba to manage and transfer technology to our local expertise”, he was quoted as saying.

Sambo also assured stakeholders of the administration’s continued support and partnership towards achieving the set goals.
