VICTOR OCHEI
After days of speculation surrounding his fate as Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon (Engr.) Victor Ochei has finally thrown in the towel, citing his personal resolve to pave way for a new leadership of the house as reason for his resignation.
In a letter addressed to the Deputy Speaker of the house, Rt Hon (Barr.) Basil Ganagana, the former Speaker expressed the hope the new leadership will take the state and house to greater heights, having contributed his quota in that regard.
According to him, “I wish to thank all those, numerous and many who made my tour of duty a pleasant affair. To you my esteemed colleagues, I remain grateful for your love and camaraderie we shared while it lasted”.
He prayed that God in His infinite wisdom avails his successor and indeed the house of all human sagacity in the task of accentuating the core ideals of the Legislature as a partner in governance, for a better society.
Rt Hon Ochei was sworn in as the Speaker on June 6, 2011.
Meanwhile, the Assembly has elected Peter Onwusanya (PDP, Oshimili South) as its new Speaker. He was elected following the unanimous adoption of a motion moved by the Majority Leader of the House, Monday Igbuya.
