The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has berated the All Progressives Congress, APC, saying it should be ashamed of itself for seeking to play politics with the unfortunate death of Nigerians at a stampede that occurred during the recruitment exercise by the Nigeria Immigration Service on Saturday.
Interim National Publicity Secretary of APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, had earlier on Sunday issued a statement heaping the blame of the incident that led to the death of over a dozen applicants on the PDP-led Federal Government, accusing it of non-performance and ineptitude.
In his counter-reaction, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh said the APC had again showed that it lacked respect for human life.
The rejoinder by PDP said the opposition party lacked class, and that its attempt to politicise the unfortunate incident was a clear manifestation of its Janjaweed ideology.
The ruling party said it was despicable for the APC to condescend so low as to trivialise and politicise weighty issues bordering on human lives while the families of the deceased were still mourning, all in a bid to score cheap political point.
The PDP described the APC statement as crass, adding that it had further exposed it as a party of insensitive persons blinded by inordinate quest for power.
Metuh recalled that as a responsive party, the PDP has since Saturday swung into action by charging all relevant agencies to immediately launch detailed investigation into the remote and immediate causes of the stampede.
He also noted that the Federal Government has already commenced an immediate response to the incident.
Noting that this was not the time to join issues with the APC which it described as “an ill-bred party which has no regard for human life”, the statement maintained that the ruling party would not be distracted by attacks by the APC but would remain committed to curbing unemployment in line with its manifesto and the transformation agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan.
