Kano State Governor, Engr. Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso has said he will not leave the state in debt, though he inherited some from his predecessor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau.
Kwankwaso gave the assurance when he received an award of excellence from the Leadership Hausa Newspaper, as best performing northern governor.
According to the award recipient, part of the debt he inherited when he assumed office in 2011 has been paid, saying that out of over N75 billion debt, he has paid up N40 billion.
“When we came in, we met a debt of over N75 billion, but what is left now is N35 billion. That is apart from another of $100 million debt we also inherited. Our hope is to leave office without any debt”, he said.
The governor called on his colleagues in the northern states to invest more in their people in terms of education.
