The Supreme Court on Friday in Abuja dismissed the appeal brought by a former Peoples Democratic Party, PDP governorship aspirant in Kogi, Alhaji Jibrin Isah Echocho, challenging the election of Gov. Idris Wada.

Echocho, a member of the party, had challenged Wada’s emergence as the party’s flagbearer, claiming that he had earlier been elected as the candidate of the PDP in an earlier party primary.

Information Nigeria reports that Echocho had won the January 2011 PDP primaries before the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, postponed elections in five states including Kogi.

The justices of the Supreme Court dismissed Mr Echocho’s appeal, declaring that Governor Wada was the duly nominated candidate of the PDP in the 2011 election.

Meanwhile, the Kogi State Governor has described his victory as “freedom received at the highest temple of mother justice”.

A statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Mr Jacob Edi, said that the governor hopes that the judgment will put an end to the agitation by his opponents to put spanner in the works of his government.
